AT HOME WITH: MARCUS EHNING

AT HOME WITH: MARCUS EHNING

Visiting our team riders at home is an important part of our collaborations at Aloga Equestrian. It gives us a unique insight into the everyday routines of the riders and grooms we work with, and into the way their horses live away from the competition arena.

At the very top level of international showjumping, Marcus Ehning and his longtime groom Mel Jobst spend much of the season on the road, travelling the world to the biggest events in the sport. The pace of international sport can be relentless, but whether they are at home, on the road or competing one priority never changes: the wellbeing of Marcus’s horses.

Horses at home

When we visited for a photo shoot, it was a pleasure to see Flower Girl and Baloubets Rose Dree Boeken turned out together, enjoying quiet time in the field. Both were wearing their Aloga Pro Turnout blankets, it is always special watching top-level horses relax, graze, and move freely away from the atmosphere of international shows. These turnout blanket offering reliable protection from the elements while allowing freedom of movement in the field to these top equine athletes.

“It’s very important for me that the horses get out into the fields as much as possible,” says Marcus. That philosophy is reflected throughout the yard as he believes performance begins with content, well-managed horses at home.

Behind the Scenes

Mel has been Marcus’s groom for over a decade, and her connection with each horse is immediately clear. The consistency she brings to their daily care plays a vital role in maintaining a calm, familiar environment between competitions.

From morning checks to evening routines, attention to detail defines life on the yard. While stabled the horses rest in Aloga Pro Stable blankets that provide breathable comfort and warmth while indoors. Recovery is just as important as preparation, and ensuring horses feel secure and relaxed in their stables is a key part of that process. This quiet, structured routine allows them to arrive at shows feeling settled and confident.

Next Generation

During our visit, we were fortunate to watch Marcus ride one of his younger horses. At home, his focus is on education and development of the next generation to build balance, confidence, and understanding without the added pressure of competition.

In training, every detail matters. The horses were worked in Aloga saddle pads, combining performance function using breathable fabrics. Designed for comfort and stability, they complement the careful, systematic approach Marcus takes in producing future stars.

At home, progress is patient and deliberate. Each session builds towards long-term success rather than short-term results.

Where Performance Truly Begins

Spending time on the yard is always a reminder that success at the highest level is built on foundations laid far from the spotlight. It is founded in consistent care, thoughtful training sessions, and in the trusted partnerships between rider, groom, and horse.

Visiting Marcus Ehning and Mel offered a glimpse into that world where exceptional horsemanship, and carefully chosen equipment, from Pro Turnout and Pro Stable blankets to performance saddle pads, all play their part.

Because true performance does not begin in the arena. It begins at home.
